CAROLINE LEWIS
(To
the melody of Adele’s "Set Fire to the Rain")
You
made me fall . . . a lot,
And
as I fell, people would see me.
It
wasn’t even dark, but broad daylight,
But
down I went ungracefully.
My
legs, they’re strong,
But
my vision is far too weak.
To
walk with you,
Without
falling on concrete.
But
there’s a side to me,
That
you never knew, never knew.
All
the pain I felt,
That
you put me through, put me through.
My
face, a bright red shade,
You
will pay for this, pay for this.
‘Cause
I set fire to high heels,
Watched
them burn as I did a cartwheel.
Well,
they burned in the night,
And
my neighbors asked if I’m alright, alright.
When
I walked with you
To
the clubs, I would stand there
Awkwardly,
Feel
the guys, stare at me.
No
numbers asked,
Of those without coordination.
But
there’s a side to me,
That
you never knew, never knew
All
the pain I felt,
That
you put me through, put me through.
My
face a bright red shade,
You
will pay for this, pay for this.
‘Cause
I set fire to high heels,
Watched
them burn as I did a cartwheel.
Well,
they burned in the night,
And
my neighbors asked if I’m insane, insane.
I
set fire to high heels,
And
I threw style into the flames.
When
I’d trip, I would fly,
But
I knew that that was the last time, the last time.
Sometimes
I wake up in my bed,
Dreaming
that I’d worn my flats instead.
Even
now when we’re already over,
I
can’t help myself from looking shorter.
I
set fire to high heels,
Watched
them burn as I did a cartwheel.
Well,
they burned in the night,
And
my neighbors asked if I’m alright, alright.
I
set fire to high heels,
And
I threw style into the flames.
When
I’d trip, I would fly,
But
I knew that that was the last time, the last time, ooooh.
Oh
nooo,
Let
them burn, ooh
Let
them burn,
Let
them burn.
Creative Writing Columnist, Caroline Lewis:
My name is Caroline Lewis, I am a super-senior at Cal (they just can't get rid of me!), and I am studying Integrative Biology with a minor in Creative Writing. Some might be thinking, "Why, those have absolutely nothing to do with each other" but I love writing fiction, it's my means of escape from the rigorous world of science. I especially love to incorporate humor into my writing; sometimes you have to search for it, but don't worry it's hidden in there somewhere! I hope you enjoy my work as much as I love creating it, and I look forward to working with this great group at Unleashed.
